Respiratory events

Respiratory events associated with sleep apnea include interruptions (apneas) or decreases of more than 50% (hypopneas) in inspiratory flow, lasting more than 10 seconds and occurring more than 5 times per hour of sleep [1]. These events lead to micro-awakenings, necessary for the body to reopen the pharynx and allow air to flow again [2], but which alter sleep quality.
