Long-Term Oxygen Therapy covers two distinct modes of oxygen administration:
– long-term daily oxygen therapy, in which oxygen is administered for at least 15 hours a day [1]. It is indicated in the treatment of COPD and other causes of chronic respiratory insufficiency (interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, etc.) [2] ;
– exclusive ambulatory oxygen therapy, indicated for patients with respiratory insufficiency who do not benefit from long-term oxygen therapy and who are desaturated on exertion. COPD is not an indication for exclusive ambulatory oxygen therapy [3].
