Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI)

The Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) is an index used to assess the severity of sleep apnea. It represents the number of apneas (breathing stops) and hypopneas (breathing decreases) per hour of sleep. An AHI of 5 to 15 characterizes mild sleep apnea, and 16 to 30 moderate. Severe apnea is defined as an AHI above 30.[1]
